Alumnus prepares to endow fourth professorship

As a young boy in the late 1950s, Dr. Ross Lampe Jr. would tag along with his grandfather, the dean of engineering, on weekend trips to his office in Riddick Hall on the NC State campus. Dr. J. Harold Lampe was the longest-serving dean of the College of Engineering.

Success and generosity are in the Dean family’s DNA

William H. Dean, president and CEO of M.C. Dean, Inc. and a 1988 alumnus in electrical engineering, and his father, Marion Casey Dean, retired president and CEO and current chairman of the company’s Board of Directors and a 1967 alumnus in electrical engineering, have established two professorship funds: the endowed M.C. Dean, Inc. Distinguished Professorship in Electrical and Computer Engineering and the M.C. Dean, Inc. Term Professorship in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
