College of Engineering passes $200 million in research expenditures

The College of Engineering posted more than $200 million in research expenditures in budget year 2016-17, placing NC State Engineering in elite company among engineering schools in the United States. “It’s time for us to give back”

Impressed with the James B. Hunt Jr. Library, Steve Rea and his wife, Phyllis, decided to honor NC State by becoming donors to the NCSU Libraries in 2015, and since then have supported the Libraries broadly. Most significantly, the Reas established the Stephen and Phyllis Rea Endowment for Mechanical Engineering Collections in order to provide resources for all students, and particularly those in the College of Engineering

University to host graduate school lab for underrepresented students

North Carolina State University will host a program designed to help students from underrepresented groups in STEM fields learn more about graduate school and professional opportunities. The National GEM Consortium’s GRAD (Getting Ready for Advanced Degrees) Lab will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Stateview Hotel on NC State’s Centennial Campus. Duke University is a co-sponsor of the event.

Aerospace engineering student wins Goldwater Scholarship

Madison Maloney, a junior studying aerospace engineering at North Carolina State University, is the University’s 51st Goldwater Scholar. Maloney is the first woman at NC State to receive a Goldwater Scholarship since 2015.

Lavelle named ASEE Fellow

Dr. Jerome Lavelle, associate dean of academic affairs in the College of Engineering at North Carolina State University, has been named to the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Academy of Fellows. He will be honored at the 2018 ASEE Annual Conference and Exposition Awards Ceremony on June 27, 2018, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Velev to receive Langmuir Lecturer Award

Dr. Orlin Velev, INVISTA Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor at North Carolina State University, has been named the recipient of the 2018 Langmuir Lecturer Award from the Division of Colloid and Surface Chemistry of the American Chemical Society (ACS).
