Student chapter of Engineers Without Borders receives Green Brick Award

The NC State Sustainability Council announced the 2018 recipients of the university’s Green Brick Awards at an April 26 ceremony recognizing outstanding contributions to sustainability. NC State’s student chapter of Engineers Without Borders is the campus organization winner.

College announces first-of-its-kind gift, breaks ground on Fitts-Woolard Hall

Two North Carolina State University industrial engineering alumni are supporting the College of Engineering’s newest building with the largest gift given for a campus building naming in NC State’s history. The University on Friday broke ground on Fitts-Woolard Hall, which comes as the result of a $25 million gift from alumni Edward P. Fitts Jr. and Edgar S. Woolard Jr.

Pentair partnership: Solving complex challenges

Ten years ago, Pentair was looking to expand its autonomous underwater robot technology to the swimming pool market. The relationship quickly expanded to other areas of the company and across university disciplines. The company opened an innovation center on Centennial Campus in 2011 to further engagement, and the partnership with NC State continues to grow.

At an awards ceremony earlier this month, 46 recipients of the 2017-18 Chancellor’s Study Abroad Scholarship were recognized for their commitment to on-campus and international academic achievement. Of the 46 recipients, 11 students are from the College of Engineering.

Finding GenX

While searching for sources of bromide in the Cape Fear River watershed nearly five years ago, NC State environmental engineer Detlef Knappe and his team found more than they were looking for: high concentrations of a number of unexpected industrial chemicals in drinking water, including one — GenX — that has entered the popular vernacular in North Carolina.
