Velev receives 2017 RJ Reynolds Award

Dr. Orlin Velev, INVISTA Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at North Carolina State University, is the thirty-third recipient of the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company Award for Excellence in Teaching, Research and Extension. Velev delivered an award lecture Tuesday, Nov. 14.

Narayan, Q-carbon company place as 2017 R&D 100 Winner

Dr. Jagdish Narayan, John C. C. Fan Distinguished Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at North Carolina State University, and his company spun out from his invention Q-carbon, Q-Carbon LLC, have placed as a winner in the R&D 100 Awards.

LeBeau Wins $2M Transmission Electron Microscope in NSF MRI Competition

Dr. James LeBeau, assistant professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at North Carolina State University and associate director of the Analytical Instrumentation Facility (AIF), has been awarded a $2M Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM).

Graduate student places as finalist in Collegiate Inventors Competition

Sangchul Roh, a chemical engineering Ph.D. candidate at North Carolina State University, was placed as one of six finalists in the graduate student portion of the Collegiate Inventors Competition. Roh, who is advised by Dr. Orlin Velev, INVISTA Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, was nominated for his submission “Elastic Biocompatible Inks.” 

Dr. Louis A. Martin-Vega, dean of the College, recognized 2017 Distinguished Engineering Alumni Hassan and Icenhour at a banquet on Nov. 1.

College names Distinguished Engineering Alumni for 2017

The College of Engineering at North Carolina State University named the Distinguished Engineering Alumnus award winners for 2017. The recipients are Basil Hassan, senior manager of the Thermal, Fluid, and Aero Sciences Group for Sandia National Laboratories and Alan S. Icenhour, associate laboratory director for the Nuclear Science and Engineering Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Allbritton receives 2017 Edward Kidder Graham Award

Dr. Nancy Allbritton, Kenan Distinguished Professor and chair of the UNC-NC State Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering was awarded the 2017 Edward Kidder Graham Award at the University of North Carolina Chapel-Hill’s University Day celebrations on Oct. 12, 2017.
