Things to know to be a successful NC State Engineering student

Undergraduate engineering students use the micro tile wall at the IPearl Immerstion theater at Hunt Library.

As Wolfpack Welcome Week has commenced, you are unpacking your bags and preparing for the first day of classes. As you begin your journey as an NC State Engineering student, keep in mind these helpful tips for a successful year:

Explore.

Meet up with new friends from orientation or down the hall and take part in the festivities of Packapalooza on August 19th. Get out and try the coffee shops and restaurants in Talley Student Union. Explore the James B. Hunt Jr. Library and the 3D printers.

Download the NC State On Campus app.

With this app, you can see the weather, check the Wolfline schedule, look at campus events, find buildings with the interactive campus map, view your schedule and more.

Attend the Annual College of Engineering Welcome.

Be sure to attend the 17th Annual College of Engineering Welcome for First-Students. This event features our dean, Dr. Louis Martin-Vega, and this year’s keynote speaker, Dr. Christine Mann Darden, a retired member of The Senior Executive Service NASA Langley Research Center. Dr. Darden was recently included in the book, “Hidden Figures” by Margot Shetterly and the 20th Century Fox film of the same name based on the NASA “human computers” who as members of the segregated West Computers contributed to the NASA Space Program in the early 1960s.

Meet an Engineering Ambassador (EA).

These student leaders help to support the college and strive to enrich the educational experience for first-year and upper-class engineering students. Connect with an EA to get a student perspective, ask questions, or get advice.

Bookmark Engineering Academic Program websites.

Take a look at the College’s 18 undergraduate degrees in 12 academic departments, clubs, organizations, honor societies and other opportunities. You can also find information about courses and advising.
