Güvenç, Abolhasani honored for research achievements with Alcoa Awards

Ismail Güvenç, professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Milad Abolhasani, associate professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, have been honored for their research work by NC State’s College of Engineering with Alcoa Foundation Awards.

College of Engineering advances in U.S. News graduate rankings

The 2023-24 rankings, released on April 25, show NC State’s College of Engineering ranked as the 25th-best graduate engineering program in the United States, and 12th among public institutions. That’s up from 26th and 13th in the previous rankings, released in spring 2022.

Marshall named president-elect of American Nuclear Society

Lisa Marshall, director of outreach, retention, and engagement and an assistant extension professor and advisor in the Department of Nuclear Engineering at NC State, has been named as vice president and president-elect of the American Nuclear Society (ANS).

Rabiei, Sitar named senior members of National Academy of Inventors

Afsaneh Rabiei, professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and Zlatko Sitar, Kobe Steel Distinguished Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, are among 95 of the world’s foremost emerging academic inventors to earn the prestigious distinction, which seek to recognize inventors who have made real and significant contributions to their communities and the rest of the world.

Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Head Dan Stancil to step down, remain on faculty

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Head Dan Stancil will be stepping down from his position at the end of the 2022-2023 academic year. He will remain on the faculty in the EDE department where he plans to invest additional energy in the growth of quantum engineering and science activities across the College and University.

Spontak receives 2022 RJ Reynolds Award

Richard J. Spontak, Distinguished Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) at North Carolina State University, received the 2022 R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company Award for Excellence in Teaching, Research and Extension. At an award ceremony held in the Talley Student Center on NC State’s campus, he delivered a lecture titled “Water-Activated Materials to Mitigate Growing Global Challenges.”

College mourns loss of John Palmour

The College of Engineering notes with great sadness the death of John Palmour, an alumnus of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and founder of local companies Cree, Inc. and Wolfspeed. Palmour died on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2022. He was 62.
