MAE celebrates 56 years

A rich history precedes the Wolfpack that we know today. In 1889, NC State’s first iteration, the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts, officially opened its doors under the leadership of its first president, Alexander Q. Holladay, and the first engineering departments were established.

Formula SAE team places in top 10 during competition

NC State University’s Formula SAE team landed their second top 10 placement this year at the 2022 June Michigan FSAE competition at the Michigan International Speedway, where both the Internal combustion and Electric vehicles entered the competitions.

Aerial Robotics Club continues longstanding participation in AUVSI SUAS competition

The NC State University Aerial Robotics Club (ARC) competed in the 2022 Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International Student Unmanned Aerial Systems (AUVSI SUAS) competition earlier this month. ARC is the only team to have competed in every competition since 2002 and this was the first AUVSI SUAS competition since 2019 due to COVID-19.

MAE Baja Team shows resilience in Rochester

The NC State University Pack Motorsports Baja SAE Team competed against 92 teams in the Baja SAE Rochester Competition in Rochester, New York on June 2nd, wrapping up their 2022 competition season just two weeks after competing at the 2022 Tennessee Tech Competition.

MAE rocketry team wins first place awards at NASA student launch

In late April, the team traveled to Huntsville, Alabama to compete against 43 other teams in the USLI College and University Division of NASA’s annual Student Launch competition. Also competing were 16 teams that participated in the SLI Middle, High School and Informal Education Institution Division of the competition.

Crickard earns Goldwater Scholarship

Mechanical engineering student Ashley Crickard, along with fellow NC State student Caleb Keaveney, has received the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. The award is one of the oldest, most prestigious scholarships in the fields of natural sciences, engineering and mathematics.

Global Alumni Spotlight: From student to founder

Tayseer Almatter, class of 2012, began his career at NC State University to complete his Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering. Little did he know that his experiences would lead him to build TforDesign, a design innovation brand. Both inside and outside the classroom, Tayseer says he was allowed the opportunity to “re-discover” himself.
