Prosthetic robotics proposal awarded $1.2 million in NSF funding

The award, titled “Collaborative Research: NRI: Smart Skins for Robotic Prosthetic hand,” seeks to further develop smart skin technology within robotic prosthetic hands for more effective and efficient prosthetics.

MAE professor receives Edge Award from North Carolina Renewable Ocean Energy Program

Earlier this summer, MAE Associate Professor Chris Vermillion received the North Carolina Renewable Ocean Program’s (NCROEP’s) Edge Award. Named after famed NC State marine engineering professor and pioneer of the NCROEP Billy Edge, this award is given annually to one member of the program who demonstrates exemplary research in the area of marine renewable energy.

MAE researchers develop new lightweight exoskeleton

Researchers with the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at NC State University have developed a new portable, lightweight, and highly-compliant knee exoskeleton that helps wearers reduce muscle effects during walking.

Saul awarded rank of American Society of Biomechanics (ASB) Fellow

Dr. Saul is one of only five people to be awarded the position in 2022, and one of only 52 people who have been recognized as an ASB Fellow since the conception of the award. She and her fellow recipients will be inducted at the North American Congress on Biomechanics in August, which is a joint meeting of ASB and the Canadian Society of Biomechanics.

Engineering alumni establish new endowment for Caldwell Fellows program

The Caldwell Fellows Program is excited to celebrate the establishment of a new endowment by two of our alumni with a unique story. Allison Anderson (BS Biomedical Engineering ’05; MS Industrial Engineering ‘07) and David Anderson (BS Mechanical Engineering ’05) met during their time in the Caldwell Fellows Program. It had such a significant impact on their lives, that they decided to establish a new named fund that will honor this impact and benefit students in the program.

SolarPack completes fastest lap in FSGP history

The NC State University solar car team, SolarPack, completed the fastest lap in the 30+ year history of the Formula Sun Grand Prix (FSGP) competition earlier this month. Additionally, the team set record, completing the 2.5 mile lap in just over 3 minutes, after spending a mere fraction of the money that other teams spent on their vehicles.
