Brantley, Easter and Hooks receive DEA awards

The College of Engineering at North Carolina State University bestowed the Distinguished Engineering Alumnus (DEA) award on John C. Brantley III, Steffanie B. Easter and Jacob T. “Jake” Hooks. 

Department of Energy funding will include an upgrade to the PULSTAR reactor operated by the Department of Nuclear Engineering in Burlington Nuclear Engineering Lab.

Paramagnetic spins take electrons for a ride, produce electricity from heat

“Paramagnon drag thermopower” converts a temperature difference into an electrical voltage. This discovery could lead to more efficient thermal energy harvesting, such as converting car exhaust heat into electric power to enhance fuel-efficiency.

Genzer receives 2019 R.J. Reynolds Award

Dr. Jan Genzer, S. Frank and Doris Culberson Distinguished Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) at North Carolina State University, is the thirty-fifth recipient of the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company Award for Excellence in Teaching, Research and Extension. Genzer gave his award titled, “A Voyage from Flatland to the Flatterland, and the Highlands in Soft Matter,” at the Larry K. Monteith Engineering Research Center on NC State’s Centennial Campus on Oct. 29.

NC State engineers are helping to drive the economy in the Research Triangle Park, across North Carolina and around the nation, thanks to to the ability to solve problems and work collaboratively, a skill that they learned during their time on campus.
