NC State Chancellor Dr. Randy Woodson took a chance to get out of his office and see the kind of exciting work going in the university’s College of Engineering on Feb. 24.

“I promise you it’s the best part of my week and the best part of my month,” Woodson told a group of faculty and staff from the College of Engineering during a lunch in Engineering Building II on NC State’s Centennial Campus.

Woodson spoke during a lunch for Engineering faculty and staff and took questions on topics ranging from facilities to academic priorities. The chancellor described his annual tour of the college as a chance to learn and ask questions, which helps him tell the story of the university.

Each year, the chancellor joins Engineering Dean Dr. Louis Martin-Vega to visit a couple of departments within the College of Engineering. This year, Woodson toured the Departments of Computer Science (CSC) and Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), both located in Engineering Building II. He also visited the National Science Foundation ASSIST Center, also located on Centennial Campus.

Led by Dr. Mladen Vouk, professor and department head, Woodson saw the Department of Computer Science’s Software Engineering & Requirements, Digital Games Research Center and Center for Educational Informatics laboratories.

Dr. Daniel Stancil, professor and department head in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, led tours of the department’s Active Robotic Sensing Laboratory, Laboratory for Integrated Microsystems for Imaging, Sensing and Therapy and Troxler Senior Design Center.
