Basnight remembered as a champion for the College of Engineering

State Sen. Marc Basnight, a Dare County Democrat who served as president pro tempore of the NC Senate longer than anyone in history, died on Dec. 28, 2020, at the age of 73.

Brenner named head of Department of Materials Science and Engineering

Dr. Donald Brenner, Kobe Steel Distinguished Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at North Carolina State University, has been named head of the MSE department. Brenner has served as interim head since fall 2017.

Dr. Douglas L. Irving, assistant professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at North Carolina State University, has received a Faculty Early Career Development Award from the National Science Foundation (NSF). The award, known as the NSF CAREER Award, is one of the highest honors given by NSF to young faculty in science and engineering.
