Yuan receives Hans-Jurgen Schmidt Award

Samuel P. Langley Distinguished Professor Dr. Fuh-Gwo Yuan, from NC State University’s Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, recently received the 2023 Hans-Jurgen Schmidt Award from the International Workshop on Structural Health Monitoring (IWSHM).

Yuan received the award Wednesday night during the IWSHM Workshop at Stanford University. 

The award was established to “recognize an individual for his or her outstanding leadership in advancing technologies in industry and government,” IWSHM states. “The Award is named after Hans-Juergen Schmidt, whose views and efforts have made a significant impact on the progress of Structural Health Monitoring technologies in industry.”

Yuan has also recently been recognized for hios work in the SHM community with the 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award in SHM and NDE from the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE), and he has been selected to receive the 2023 RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company Award for excellence in teaching, research and extension and will deliver his lecture “Digital Twin – Enabling Technology for Future Aircraft Health Monitoring” at a seminar event for the award on Oct. 16, during which he will be recognized by new Dean of the College of Engineering, Jim Pfaendtner.
