Virginia Teachey, assistant dean for finance and business management in the College of Engineering, will leave her position effective July 22, 2019. Teachey has accepted a position as vice chancellor for finance and administration at UNC Pembroke.

“For over nine years, NC State’s College of Engineering has been the very fortunate beneficiary of Virginia’s many talents,” said Dr. Louis Martin-Vega, dean of engineering. “Her contributions through outstanding commitment and dedication to the growth and enhancement of our College is certainly beyond estimation. As our College’s chief fiscal and administrative officer, she has been a creative and highly effective manager of a $240 million operating budget. She has also been a critical member of our College’s Executive Leadership team and her many significant contributions have played a major role in enhancing the reputation of our College within NC State and among our peer colleges of engineering nationwide.”

The College has initiated the process of finding Teachey’s successor, with a goal of having the next assistant dean for finance and business management in place by mid-September, Martin-Vega said.

Before joining the College of Engineering, Teachey was instrumental in major projects as the associate director for finance in University Housing, Greek Life & Caldwell Fellows. During her tenure in this position, she developed and implemented a comprehensive 10-year capital improvement plan including new capital projects and renovations and successfully managed a $140 million bond portfolio.

Prior to her roles at NC State, she served as chief administrative officer at Ball State University in the Department of Kinesiology and as an administrative coordinator in the Department of Special Education. Teachey also has more than 12 years of course development and academic instruction experience through various roles and as an adjunct instructor at Indiana Business.

“In addition to Virginia’s outstanding leadership of our financial and business operation, she has been an excellent role model and mentor to her immediate staff as well as over 200 staff members who support the operation of our College across all our departments and units,” Martin-Vega continued. “While she will be missed greatly by all of us, we must feel both proud and happy for her as she moves forward into this next stage of her career.”
