University to hold first-ever Day of Giving

NC State Day of Giving: 3/27/19

On March 27, NC State University will host its inaugural Day of Giving — a 24-hour fundraising campaign that aims to maximize support for the University. The College of Engineering is gearing up for a friendly competition between departments.

The College’s nine academic departments will compete to win a share of $15,000 in prize money from Dean Louis Martin-Vega. Every gift matters, as this money will be awarded based on the number of gifts each department enhancement fund receives.

Additionally, $11,000 in prize money made available by the NC State Engineering Foundation Board of Directors will be awarded after Day of Giving based on a percentage of participation by department alumni.

Gifts made to department enhancement funds are unrestricted and support world-class research, state-of-the-art facilities and innovative educational programs and scholarships.

Gifts made on Day of Giving could also help bring in even more funding to the College, which will be competing for $60,000 in prize money against five other colleges and programs in the Red Division Leaderboard. Within the division, the colleges will take part in two competitions — the number of gifts and the total dollars raised — in order to win a percentage of the prize money.

On Day of Giving, NC State aims to maximize support for the University by creating opportunities for all students, alumni, partners and friends to make gifts and to spread the word about the campaign on social media using the hashtag #GivingPack.

Throughout the day, the Wolfpack community will also have the opportunity to compete in various challenges to unlock extra funding. Some of these challenges will take place on social media, while others will require that participants give gifts at certain times.

The College will focus on a few specific challenges during the day:

  • #GivingPack Challenge: 8-9 a.m., post on Twitter using both the #GivingPack hashtag and the @NCStateEngr handle. If @NCStateEngr is tagged in the most tweets with the #GivingPack hashtag, the College will win $2,500.
  • Pack Pets Challenge: 1-2 p.m., share photos of your pets wearing NC State accessories and tag @NCStateEngr on Twitter or Instagram. If someone who tags @NCStateEngr in their post has shared the best pet picture, the College will win an extra $3,000.
  • Most Student Gifts Challenge: 5-6 p.m., the fund that receives the most student gifts in that timeframe will win $3,000.
  • Most Young Alumni Gifts Challenge: 8-9 p.m., the fund that receives the most young alumni (2009-2018 graduates) gifts in that timeframe will win $3,000.

On Day of Giving, gifts can be made at dayofgiving.ncsu.edu; a minimum $10 gift is required. Beyond making gifts, spreading the word on social media will also be an important part of making the day a success — so be sure to tag the College of Engineering.
