Lavelle named lecturer for Annual Graphic Communications Distinguished Lecture

Dr. Jerome Lavelle, the associate dean for undergraduate academic affairs in the College of Engineering at NC State University, was selected as the distinguished lecturer for the 32nd Annual Graphic Communications Distinguished Lecture.

Lavelle joined the College in 2000 as assistant dean of academic affairs and has played significant roles in the development, implementation and growth of various programs, including the First-Year Engineering program, the Engineering Transition program, the Engineering Ambassadors program and the new CODA process. In addition to leading the College’s office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs, he is responsible for leading proposal efforts and strategic thrusts for increased access and pathways to engineering for students across the University of North Carolina System and the North Carolina Community College System.

Lavelle received the Engineering Economy Division Wellington Award from the Institute of Industrial Engineers in 2011 and was named a member of the 2007-2008 class of the American Council on Education Fellows Program.

Prior to joining NC State, Lavelle served for seven years on the faculty of the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering at Kansas State University as an associate professor. It was here he developed and directed the Master of Engineering Management degree program. He was a member of technical staff at AT&T Bell Laboratories and an ASEE Faculty fellow at NASA Kennedy Space Center.

He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in industrial and systems engineering from Ohio State University and a Ph.D. in industrial and systems engineering from NC State.

The Annual Graphic Communications Distinguished Lecture Series will be held in room 216 in Poe Hall on NC State’s main campus on Friday, Feb. 26 at 2:30 p.m. The lecture series is presented by the Technology, Engineering and Design Education faculty in the Department of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Education in the College of Education at NC State.
