Joint NCSU/UNC Biomedical Engineering team awarded NCEES scholarship

A group of Biomedical Engineering students from North Carolina State University has been awarded a $7,500 scholarship by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).

The team is made up of recent NC State graduates from the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering of NC State and UNC-Chapel Hill. Their project, “Creating a Better Way to Locate Vasculature for Intravenous Therapy,” focuses on helping paramedics locate veins for IV access. The team developed a topical ointment that increases visibility of veins suitable for IV therapy, making drug delivery more efficient and beneficial to patient health.

NCEES is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing professional licensure for engineers and surveyors. It develops, administers, and scores the examinations used for engineering and surveying licensure in the United States. The NCEES Engineering Award recognizes engineering programs that encourage collaboration between students and professional engineers.

The Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering is an academic department co-located at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and NC State University and was established on December 1, 2003, linking the School of Medicine at UNC-CH to the College of Engineering at NC State.
