Turinsky reappointed to Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board

President Barack Obama has reappointed Dr. Paul Turinsky, professor of nuclear engineering at North Carolina State University, to the U.S. Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board.

Turinsky has held a position on the board since 2012 and has taught at NC State since 1980, serving several stints as head of the Department of Nuclear Engineering. His reappointment was announced on June 12.

Turinsky also serves as chief scientist at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Consortium for Advanced Simulation of Light Water Reactors, a position he has held since 2010. From 1973 to 1980, he worked in a variety of positions for Westinghouse Electric and was an assistant professor of nuclear science and engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute from 1970 to 1973.

Turinsky earned a BS from the University of Rhode Island, an MSE and PhD from the University of Michigan, and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh.

The U.S. Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board is an independent agency of the federal government that performs scientific and technical peer review of the Department of Energy’s nuclear programs on high level waste and spent nuclear fuel disposition, providing recommendations to Congress and the Secretary of Energy.
