Velev named Distinguished Speaker by the NC Section of American Chemical Society

Dr. Orlin Velev, INVISTA Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at NC State University, has been named the 2013 Distinguished Speaker at the annual conference hosted by the North Carolina Section of the American Chemical Society.

The highest honor from the NC Section, the award recognizes Velev’s significant contributions to the section and the field of chemical sciences. Velev will deliver the Distinguished Speaker Lecture at the 127th NC ACS Sectional Conference in fall 2013.

Velev came to NC State in 2001 and has established himself as a research leader in colloid science and engineering, as well as in the assembly of biosensors and nano- and microstructures with photonic, optical and electrical functionality. He leads an active and multidisciplinary research group at NC State.

He is a past recipient of the Alcoa Foundation Distinguished Engineering Research Award, the Alumni Association Outstanding Research Award, the Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award, the National Science Foundation CAREER Award and the Ralph E. Powe Award. He was named an ACS Fellow in 2011.

Velev received his MSc in chemical physics and theoretical chemistry in 1989 and his PhD in physical chemistry in 1996 at the University of Sofia, Bulgaria.
