Dr. Elizabeth Dickey, professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at North Carolina State University, has received the 2012 Richard M. Fulrath Award from the Amercian Ceramic Society(ACerS).

The Fulrath Awards promote technical and personal friendships between professional Japanese and American ceramic engineers and scientists and encourage a greater understanding among the diverse cultures surrounding the Pacific Rim. The awards recognize individuals for their excellence in research and development of ceramic sciences and materials.

Dickey’s academic and research interests include nanomaterials for electrical and sensing applications, interface materials science, high-temperature ceramic composites and transmission electron microscopy. She has over 100 peer-reviewed journal publications in these areas. Dickey has served as an editor for Microscopy and Microanalysis and is currently an associate editor for the Journal of the American Ceramic Society.

Dickey is a past recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) for her work on metal-ceramic interfaces. She is also an ACerS Fellow.

She received her BS in materials engineering in 1992 from the University of Kentucky and her PhD in materials science and engineering at Northwestern University in 1997.

Founded in 1898, ACerS serves more than 9,500 members and students from more than 60 countries.
