Two North Carolina State University alumni have made a $50,000 gift to NC State’s
eGames competition to help student entrepreneurs succeed.

The gift from Eric and Amy Huang means this year’s event will be called
the “Prometheus Group eGames — Sponsored by the Huang Family Foundation.”
The Huangs are co-founders of Prometheus Group, a Raleigh-based provider of
customized industrial systems software packages and services.

The annual competition, which began in February and wraps up with presentations
and final round judging at NC State’s McKimmon Center on April 21, features teams
of student entrepreneurs vying for cash awards as they create new venture business
plans, website makeovers, sustainability action plans, and designs and prototypes of
new products.

“We are delighted that Eric and Amy Huang have made this generous gift to
such an important event,” said Dr. Louis Martin-Vega, dean of the College of
Engineering. “Their support will help add to NC State’s tremendous track record
of producing entrepreneurs with big dreams and bold ideas who will change the
world.”

Eric Huang, who received bachelor’s degrees in chemical engineering, chemistry
and biochemistry from NC State in 1994, is Prometheus Group’s co-chief executive
officer. Amy Huang, who also graduated in 1994 with a bachelor’s degree in zoology,
is chief counsel and strategic advisor. About 70 percent of the company’s employees
are NC State graduates, Eric Huang said. The firm customizes software packages to
help large companies find inefficiencies, increase productivity and reduce costs.

“We’ve had such great success picking up young and ambitious students from NC
State that we decided to give back to the university,” Eric Huang said. “This event
helps engineers and other technically minded people start thinking about the
business aspects of their plans earlier in the development process.”

“Eric and Amy’s gift will help take this celebration of student entrepreneurship
to the next level,” said Dr. Tom Miller, executive director of the NC State
Entrepreneurship Initiative, which organizes the Prometheus Group eGames. “By
providing students with this competitive platform, we help prepare the next
generation of outstanding NC State entrepreneurs.”
