NC State to host middle school students in Future City Competition

What: The NC Regional Future City Competition comes to North Carolina State University. The event, designed to help students better understand practical applications of engineering, math and science, showcases teams of sixth, seventh and eighth graders who have used Simcity computer software to design the cities of the future. Students will present models of their cities and compete for cash prizes and a free trip to the national competition in Washington, DC, later this year. In 2010, a team from Davidson, NC, won the national title. Media coverage is invited.

Who: About 200 middle school students from across the state will present their projects. NC State engineering students will help run the event, which is hosted by the Engineering Place outreach and education program in the College of Engineering at NC State.

When: 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15.

Where: Talley Student Center at NC State (directions/parking).

Admission: The event is free and open to the public. Attendees are asked to check in at the registration table.
