Elmaghraby honored by International Conference

The International Conference on Informational Systems, Logistics, and Supply Chain has honored Dr. Salah E. Elmaghraby, a North Carolina State University professor of operations research and industrial engineering, by creating a best paper competition for doctoral students.

The first winner of the Professor Salah E. Elmaghraby Best Student Paper award will be announced during the International Conference on Informational Systems, Logistics, and Supply Chain, which is taking place from April 14-16 in Casablanca, Morocco.

The award is intended to be a tribute to Elmaghraby and rewards excellence in scientific work. Competitors for the award will present their papers during one of the conference sessions, and they will submit the papers in PDF format for the conference. The winner of the competition will receive a 1,000-euro prize (about $1,375 U.S.) and a certificate. Elmaghraby has been a faculty member with NC State since 1967. His research interests include design and operation of production systems, project planning and scheduling, discrete optimization and dynamic programming. Elmaghraby was a research leader at the Western Electric Engineering Research Center in Princeton, NJ, prior to joining NC State. He received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 1954 from Cairo University, his master’s degree in industrial engineering in 1955 from The Ohio State University, and his doctorate in industrial engineering in 1958 from Cornell University. He has written four books, edited/co-edited three books, and authored/co-authored over 85 scientific papers. He is a registered Professional Engineer and a member of INFORMS, the Institute for Industrial Engineering, and the National Society of Professional Engineers.
