Using dyes to research degenerative diseases
Through a project funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Associate Professor Nelson Vinueza and his team of researchers are working with scientists from the University of California at San Francisco to identify potential treatments for degenerative diseases such as cataracts.

Let’s hear it for the National Society of Black Engineers (@ncsunsbe)! 👏
They won the Region II Medium Chapter of the Year and the Region II Chapter of the Year.
Hannah Frowner, the Senator 1 and a first-year chemical engineering major, ran for the position of Comfort Zone Coordinator on the Region II Executive Board (REB) and secured it. She also won the Region II Chapter Member of the Year award!
In addition to the awards, their members participated in workshops, luncheons, and attended the highly anticipated career fair, where some secured interviews on the spot and others landed internships. The club sent around 45 members to the convention this year, which is the highest number NC State has ever achieved.
Fun fact: on their way back to Raleigh they ended up being on the same flight as Chancellor Randy Woodson!

Tomorrow, chemical engineering student Jannah Eissa will be taking over our Instagram Stories! She is from Cairo, Egypt. She is a guard on the women`s basketball team and she has been playing basketball for almost 14 years. Both her parents and grandparents are chemical engineers as well, and her dad got his Ph.D. from NC State! Tomorrow she will be taking you through a day in her life as a student athlete as she fasts for Ramadan and prepares for the Final Four. @ncstatecbe #NCStateEngr

Check out our engineering students that spent their spring break in Quito, Ecuador taking E101: Introduction to Engineering and Problem-Solving, taught by Dr. Qaqish. This is a brand new program, so this was the first group to go and it looks like they had a blast!

“Overall it was a really awesome experience seeing how engineering practices are implemented on the other side of the Earth. While here, we were able to visit an underground mine lab, a wastewater treatment plant, the main Skoda car transmission production factory, and the National Technical Museum all while taking in the awesome sites of Prague.”
