College recognizes 2018 Awards for Excellence recipients

Three outstanding staff members were recognized by the College of Engineering at North Carolina State University at the annual Awards for Excellence ceremony held May 1 at the James B. Hunt Jr. Library on NC State’s Centennial Campus. Dr. Louis Martin-Vega, dean of the College of Engineering, presented the awards.

Research paves way for development of cyborg moth ‘biobots’

NC State University researchers have developed methods for electronically manipulating the flight muscles of moths and for monitoring the electrical signals moths use to control those muscles. The work opens the door to the development of remotely-controlled moths, or “biobots,” for use in emergency response.

Dr. Robert Trew, the Alton and Mildred Lancaster Distinguished Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at North Carolina State University, and two of his former PhD students will receive the 2014 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Microwave Theory and Techniques Society Pioneer Award.
