NC State announces 2021-22 Goodnight Early Career Innovators

NC State announced its 2021-22 class of Goodnight Early Career Innovators today. This program recognizes and rewards promising NC State early-career faculty whose scholarship is in STEM or STEM education. The 25 faculty selected will receive $22,000 ­for each of the next three years to support their scholarship and research endeavors.

MacDonald Gibson will begin her new appointment Aug. 15, 2022, said Louis Martin-Vega, dean of the College of Engineering at NC State.

NC State hosts 2022 Carolinas Regional Student Steel Bridge Competition

NC State’s Student Steel Bridge team competed against Clemson University at the 2022 Carolinas Regional Student Steel Bridge Competition outside of NC State’s Fitts-Woolard Hall on April 2, 2022. It was the first time in two years that teams were able to compete in person, due to COVID restrictions.

NC State hosts grand opening of Plant Sciences Building, home to new NSF Center focused on phosphorus sustainability

NC State University officially opened its new Plant Sciences Building on Centennial Campus on April 12 with a special program featuring guest speakers, ribbon-cutting, tours and a reception. The building will be home to a new National Science Foundation Center focused on phosphorus sustainability.

NC State student chapter designated as “Outstanding University” by American Concrete Institute

The NC State American Concrete Institute (ACI) student chapter was given “Outstanding University” status by ACI, which identifies universities based on their participation in select ACI-related activities and programs through a points system. This year, 86 universities received recognition as part of the ACI Excellent or Outstanding Universities Award Program.

2022 EWC Graduate Research Symposium showcases melting pot of sustainable, innovative research

The annual, student-organized symposium highlights the current research conducted by CCEE’s EWC group, providing an opportunity for graduate students to gain experience in preparing and delivering 18 posters and 20 oral presentations of their research.

The old Bonner Bridge provides a new kind of service for CCEE researchers

When the Bonner Bridge opened over North Carolina’s Oregon Inlet in 1963, it was projected to have a lifespan of 30 years. Now, Bonner Bridge is being deconstructed,but the old structure will provide ongoing service by helping researchers determine how to extend the service lives of concrete bridges.
