A decisive victory in the moon race came 50 years ago this summer. In July 1969, NASA landed the first man on the moon with the Apollo 11 mission. Key in that achievement were dozens of NC State alumni.

College names Distinguished Engineering Alumni for 2017

The College of Engineering at North Carolina State University named the Distinguished Engineering Alumnus award winners for 2017. The recipients are Basil Hassan, senior manager of the Thermal, Fluid, and Aero Sciences Group for Sandia National Laboratories and Alan S. Icenhour, associate laboratory director for the Nuclear Science and Engineering Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Aerospace engineering student, Madison Maloney, has been selected to join the 2017-18 Astronaut Scholars. She will attend the Innovators Gala in Washinton, D.C., from September 14–16, where she will be awarded up to $10,000 and recognized with other members of the Astronaut Scholar Honor Society.

NC State engineers “soar” with March 24 sailplane exhibit

Aerospace engineering students at North Carolina State University team up with pilots and flight instructors to show off another way humans defy gravity — soaring. Up to six modern gliders, which are also called sailplanes because they can fly more than 100 miles without an engine, will be on display on NC State’s Centennial Campus.
