CCEE’s Ducoste tapped as COE associate dean for faculty advancement

CCEE professor Dr. Joel Ducoste has been named NC State College of Engineering associate dean for faculty advancement, effective July 1. Ducoste has served as interim associate dean for faculty advancement for the past two years.

Joel has shown a lot of passion for faculty development and has done a great job over the past two years in the interim position,” said Dr. Morton Barlaz, head of CCEE. “I am thrilled with his selection and am confident that he will bring excellent programs to the College of Engineering for years to come.”  

Ducoste is a board-certified environmental engineering member with the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists. A recognized expert in modeling water and wastewater treatment processes using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), he boasts more than 170 peer-reviewed publications and research reports. He also served as president of the Association of Environmental Engineers and Science Professors (AEESP) during 2020-21.

A fellow of the Water Environment Federation (WEF), Ducoste has received many awards and recognitions throughout his career including a National Science Foundation (NSF) Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award, an AEESP Distinguished Service Award, and a Fair Distinguished Engineering Educator Medal from WEF. He has also served on numerous Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Science Advisory Boards and committees, on the North Carolina Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Advisory Board, and on the editorial boards of leading environmental engineering journals.
