The NC State belltower, framed against a clear sky.

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) is proud to be represented in the inaugural cohort of the Kenan Institute Engineering, Technology, and Science (KIETS) Climate Leader Scholars.

The 2022 Climate Leaders Program includes MSE Prof. Veronica Augustyn and National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow Ishita Kamboj. This team from MSE is one of three departments that represent the College of Engineering. The climate change focus of the Augustyn/Kamboj team is energy storage, research to develop strategies and direct funding for renewable energy generation, sustainable sourcing, and energy justice.

The program Scholars and Faculty Fellows will be part of strong partnerships among students, faculty mentors, and internship hosts working together to develop solutions for mitigating and adapting to climate change impacts. The teams are approaching climate change in innovative ways through habitat assessments, carbon mitigation, sports, economics, renewable energy, community engagement, and public policy and education. The teams will work with their internship partners to develop solutions that mitigate and adapt to the challenges of climate change.

This new program was established in 2021. Learn more about KIETS on their website, Twitter or LinkedIn.
