COE alumni and friends can make an impact on Day of Giving

The College of Engineering is gearing up for NC State University’s third Day of Giving on March 24, and the College’s nine academic departments will be competing to receive the most gifts to win a share of $15,000 in prize money from Dean Louis Martin-Vega.

Day of Giving is a 24-hour fundraising campaign to raise money to support the University’s world-class research, develop new opportunities and improve existing programs for students. This year’s Day of Giving is a return to the normal spring scheduling after last year’s event was postponed to September due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gifts made on Day of Giving will make an even greater impact on students and faculty members because the College will be competing against other NC State colleges and programs for a percentage of bonus funds. The more donations and money given to the College, the greater percentage of the bonus funds COE will receive.

In addition to supporting the nine academic departments, gifts can also be made to other initiatives, including the Women and Minority Engineering Programs, the College’s engineering research centers and the Fitts-Woolard Hall Project Fund.

For the last two years, the College has received more gifts on Day of Giving than any other college and program. Alumni and friends of the College are encouraged to tune in on March 24 to participate in extra challenges that can help their gifts go even further. The College is focused on the following challenges this Day of Giving:

  • Hashtag Match: 1 tweet = $10. Every tweet that tags #GivingPack counts as a $10 gift until the full $6,000 is accounted for. Beginning at 1 a.m., tweet something you love about NC State, use the #GivingPack hashtag and tag @NCStateEngr to add $10 extra to the College’s total.
  • Department Challenges: The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering; Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering; and the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering are competing to see which will receive 150 gifts first on Day of Giving. Once each department reaches 150 gifts, they will unlock a match from a generous contribution by the departments’ advisory boards.
  • Pack Pets: Do your pets back the Pack? From 11 a.m. to noon, post a photo (on Twitter or Instagram) of your pet in Wolfpack gear using #GivingPack and tag #NCStateEngr and/or @NCStateEngr for a chance to help the College win an extra $1,000. On Instagram Stories, make sure to tag @NCState too so your entry is counted.
  • Repeat Donors: Some members of the Pack spread the love by spreading out their giving over the course of the day. This challenge is for those returning donors — the college, program or fund that receives the most gifts from repeat donors between 10 and 11 p.m. will win an additional $1,000.
  • Dean vs. Dean: The College of Engineering Young Alumni Advisory Board is competing against the Wilson College of Textiles Dean’s Young Alumni Leadership Council. The losing board’s dean will donate to the other college at the end of the day. Gifts that count toward this challenge can be made here on March 24.

On Day of Giving, gifts can be made at dayofgiving.ncsu.edu. Beyond making gifts, spreading the word on social media will also be an important part of making the day a success — so be sure to tag the College of Engineering at @NCStateEngr on Twitter and Instagram, NC State Engineering on Facebook and NC State College of Engineering on LinkedIn.
