Velev receives 2017 RJ Reynolds Award

Dr. Orlin Velev, INVISTA Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at North Carolina State University, is the thirty-third recipient of the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company Award for Excellence in Teaching, Research and Extension. Velev delivered an award lecture Tuesday, Nov. 14.

Technology and complex details meet aesthetics and usability

Alumnus Junji Kawabe, a Franklin Bost Industrial Design Fellowship recipient during his time in the College of Design, recently received an iF Design Award Gold. Kawabe's two NC State degrees — a bachelor's in aerospace engineering and a master's in industrial design — are proving to be a complementary strength in his career.

Researchers inadvertently boost surface area of nickel nanoparticles for catalysis

A technique designed to coat nickel nanoparticles with silica shells actually fragments the material – creating a small core of oxidized nickel surrounded by smaller satellites.
