Three faculty members earn NSF CAREER awards

Three young faculty members in the College have been chosen to receive Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) awards from the National Science Foundation.

The NSF CAREER award is one of the most prestigious awards in support of junior faculty members who exemplify the role of teacher-scholars through outstanding research, excellent education and the integration of education and research within the context of the mission of their organizations.

The recipients are:

Dr. Ramon Collazo

Dr. Ramon Collazo, assistant professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), for his research proposal, “Engineering point defect formation in UWBG-based optoelectronic devices.”

Dr. Min Chi

Dr. Min Chi, assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science, for her research proposal, “Improving Adaptive Decision Making in Interactive Learning Environments.”

Dr. Rohan Shirwaiker

Dr. Rohan Shirwaiker, assistant professor in the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, for his research proposal, “Ultrasound-Assisted Biofabrication Of Biomimetic Soft Tissue Constructs With Aligned Fiber Organization.”

Collazo, Chi and Shirwaiker join Dr. Veronica Augustyn, assistant professor in MSE, and Dr. Stefano Menegatti, assistant professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, giving the College five CAREER winners in 2017.
