Departments change leadership
Two academic departments within the College have named new leaders and another has said goodbye to its department head.
Dr. Srinath Ekkad has been named the new head of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE), while Dr. Julie Swann is now leading the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE). Meanwhile, Dr. Justin Schwartz has left his position as head of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering to become the new dean of engineering at Penn State.
Ekkad replaces Dr. Richard Gould, RJ Reynolds Professor, who has served as the department head in MAE for 13 years.
Ekkad was most recently the Rolls-Royce Commonwealth Professor for Aerospace Propulsion Systems in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech, the associate vice president for research programs and the director of the Rolls-Royce University Technology Center for Advanced Diagnostics.
Swann succeeds Dr. Paul Cohen, Edgar S. Woolard Distinguished Professor, who served as head of ISE for 10 years.
She was most recently the Harold R. and Mary Anne Nash Professor in the Stewart School of Industrial & Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech and is co-founder and co-director of the Center for Health and Humanitarian Systems.
