MAE, BME departments to host annual meeting for American Society of Biomechanics

The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) Department and UNC-NC State Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) will host the 40th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Biomechanics Aug. 2-5 in Raleigh, NC.

The event is an anniversary celebration to showcase the society’s history of encouraging and fostering the exchange of information and ideas among biomechanists working in different disciplines.

An expected 950 academic and industry researchers, exhibitors and graduate students will share cutting-edge research, networking, and learning about the newest technology and equipment. Thirty-one exhibitors and sponsors are also participating in the event.

Keynote speakers include Dr. Sheila Patek, an associate professor of biology at Duke University; Dr. Tibor Hortobágyi, a professor in movement and healthy ageing at the University Medical Center Groningen, the Netherlands; and Dr. Duane Knudson, professor and Chair in the Department of Health and Human Performance at Texas State University.

The main conference will be held at the Raleigh Convention Center in downtown Raleigh. On Aug. 2, a Biomechanics Engineering Outreach event will be held in Hunt Library and lab tours will be hosted on NC State’s Centennial Campus in Engineering Building 3 and Hunt Library. Also, more than 200 students, parents and teachers will attend the 40th anniversary banquet at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences Nature Research Center on Aug. 4.
