Dr. Francis de los Reyes, a professor in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at North Carolina State University, recently received several honors from the Philippine-American Academy of Scientists and Engineers (PAASE).

The organization honored de los Reyes with the 2013 Severino and Paz Koh Lectureship, which recognizes the outstanding scientific and technical accomplishments of PAASE members. De los Reyes has also been elected PAASE vice president for 2013 and president-elect for 2014.

PAASE, a nonprofit founded in 1980, is composed of scientists and engineers of Philippine descent who are distinguished scholars and researchers. The organization encourages collaborative work among those scientists and engineers and recognizes and honors their achievements.

De los Reyes’ research focuses on biological processes and combines modeling, bioreactor experiments, and molecular microbial ecology tools in addressing fundamental and practical issues in environmental biotechnology and environmental engineering. He has conducted workshops for wastewater treatment plant operators and professionals in the US and the Philippines. He has also worked in water and sanitation issues in developing countries, and has collaborations in the Philippines, India, China and Montenegro.

He is a past recipient of the National Science Foundation CAREER Award and has been recognized as an Outstanding Alumnus by the University of the Philippines at Los Banos and Iowa State University.

De los Reyes received his BS in agricultural engineering from the University of the Philippines at Los Banos, his MS in civil engineering from Iowa State University, and his PhD in environmental engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
