S. Frank Culberson, a 1960 chemical engineering alumnus, received the 2011 Menscer Cup on Oct. 27 in recognition of his exemplary service to North Carolina State University.

The award, presented by the NC State University Foundation Board, is named for Darrell V. and Carolyn W. Menscer, who established an endowment to fund it. It is given annually to individuals or families who exemplify leadership and dedication to NC State through philanthropy and fundraising leadership. Darrell Menscer, a 1960 electrical engineering alumnus, chaired the NC State Foundation and co-chaired the Campaign for NC State Students.

Culberson has been among the most generous contributors to the College’s giving programs over the years. From 2005 to 2008, he served as co-chair of Achieve! The Campaign for NC State, which surpassed its goals by raising $265.7 million.

Recently, Culberson and his wife, Doris, pledged $1 million to endow two professorships in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. The couple previously endowed the S. Frank and Doris Culberson Academic Enhancement Fund in Chemical Engineering. Frank Culberson was named a Distinguished Engineering Alumnus by the College in 2002 and currently serves as president of the NC State Engineering Foundation Board of Directors. The Foundation raises private financial support on behalf of the College of Engineering, its students and faculty.

A native of Siler City, NC, Frank Culberson is chairman and a director of Rimkus Consulting Group, a 400-person forensic consulting and engineering firm headquartered in Houston. The company investigates energy and construction accidents and disputes; residential and commercial problems; product failures, including major equipment and machinery; motor vehicle and marine accidents; and industrial fires and explosions. He joined Rimkus in 1987, when there were only eight employees, and helped the company grow into a large firm with more than 30 offices in the US and Europe.

Frank Culberson is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and a registered professional engineer in Florida, Arizona and Texas.

He received an MBA from the University of Houston in 1966.
