NC State engineer shaves head to benefit kids with cancer

After years of growing out his hair, Dr. Eric Klang, associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at North Carolina State University, shaved his head for childhood cancer research on March 5.

The shearing occurred at the Hibernian Restaurant and Pub in Raleigh and benefited the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a fundraising program for childhood cancer research. As of March 8, Klang had raised $2,150, and the group is still accepting contributions.

Since 2000, more than 147,000 volunteers have shaved their heads in solidarity with children with cancer at St. Baldrick’s events in dozens of countries and every US state.

“My dad died of cancer,” Klang said, “and I decided to do something useful with my hair.”
