NC State named among universities most friendly to junior faculty

North Carolina State University was named among 32 colleges and universities with the highest levels of junior faculty job satisfaction in a report issued this week by the Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education (COACHE), a consortium of member institutions based at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education.

The assessment considered tenure practices; the clarity of institutional expectations for tenure; the nature of faculty work overall, in research, and in teaching; work and home balance and supports; climate, culture, and collegiality; and global satisfaction.

NC State was recognized in the “clarity of institutional expectations for tenure” category, where it was named an “exemplar” school. To qualify as an “exemplar,” a college or university needed benchmark scores that placed it at the very top of its peer group, according to COACHE. The list of 32 colleges and universities is comprised of institutions named “exemplary” in at least one category.

More information about the report can be found in the Chronicle of Higher Education.
