Dr. Lisa G. Bullard, teaching associate professor and director of undergraduate studies in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, was one of 53 of the nation’s most innovative young engineering educators selected to take part in the National Academy of Engineering’s second Frontiers of Engineering Education symposium. The event will be held Dec. 13-16 in Irvine, Calif.

The three-day symposium brings together early-career faculty members who are developing and implementing innovative educational approaches in a variety of engineering disciplines, and encourages them to share ideas, learn from research and best practice in education. The attendees were nominated by fellow engineers or deans and chosen from a highly competitive pool of applicants.

This year’s program will focus on ways to ensure that students learn the engineering fundamentals, the expanding knowledge base of new technology, and the skills necessary to be an effective engineer or engineering researcher.

Bullard, who joined the NC State faculty in 2000, is a past recipient of numerous awards including Chemical Engineering Education’s Ray W. Fahien Award, the NC State Outstanding Teacher Award, the George H. Blessis Outstanding Undergraduate Advisor Award, and the NC State Faculty Advising Award.

Bullard earned her B.S. in chemical engineering from NC State in 1986 and her PhD in chemical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 1991.
