What is the Women in Engineering Program?
Opportunities abound for women engineers at North Carolina State University. The Office of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs sponsors a Women in Engineering program, which serves to coordinate, educate and sponsor a plethora of programs for women.
Our vision: To foster an environment for female students in the College of Engineering that encourages, supports and challenges them to ever higher levels of success.
Our goals:
- To encourage young girls and women to consider careers in engineering, mathematics and science disciplines.
- To increase the number of women enrolling in the College of Engineering at NC State.
- To increase the number of women graduating from the College of Engineering at NC State and going into industry or continuing to graduate school.
Opportunities available:
- A one-on-one peer mentoring program for women engineers
- An email-mentoring program (Mentornet) linking students with women engineers in the work force.
- An active student chapter of the Society of Women Engineers.
- An opportunity to serve on engineering K-12 Outreach teams, which visit K-12 schools to talk about engineering and act as role models for younger girls.
- An opportunity to participate in tutoring programs for elementary age mathematics and science students.
- Various seminars and workshops offered by the NC State Women's Center.
- Opportunities to help with a number of programs for middle and high school age girls conducted yearly on campus.
- A unique support system specifically aimed at maximizing the success rate for women students overall.
- A living and learning community for women scientists and engineers called WISE.
