Transfer Student FAQ's

Whether you are a prospective transfer student or newly admitted, you may have some questions about transferring into the College of Engineering. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions that transfer students have.

Q:  When should I apply ?

A:  We recommend that you apply during the semester  that you complete your last requirement.

Q:  Can I take the required courses at NCSU before

I'm admitted?

A:   Yes, you can take courses part time through Non-Degree Studies.   Note there are limitations to the number of hours per semester that you may take.

Q:  What if I've taken all the required courses but my GPA is a little too low for the degree I want?

A:  You should discuss your situation with one of our transfer advisers. Just call 919-515-3263, and ask for a transfer adviser.

Q:  What are the requirements?

A:   See Transfer Admissions Requirements.

Q:  Does work experience or military experience count as transfer credits?

A:  Neither work experience or military experience count toward transfer credits.

Q:  How can I know what will transfer?

A:  See Which Courses Transfer .a

Q:  Can I transfer credit for E 115?

A:  No. This course must be taken at NCSU since it is an introduction to our computing and networking system.

Q:  Am I expected to have a computer?

A:  The College of Engineering expects all incoming undergraduate students, both freshmen and transfers, to have a laptop meeting the required specifications. See Student Owned Computing. Should this expectation present a hardship, contact Student Owned Computing to discuss your options.

Q: After I'm accepted, how do I register?

A: After you return your confirmation form and pay your deposit, you should contact the College of Engineering Academic Affairs. Call 919-515-3263 and ask to make a transfer advising appointment.

Q: After I'm accepted, who will my advisor be?

A: A transfer advisor from the College of Engineering Academic Affairs will advise you for one semester. After your first semester, you will have an advisor from your major department.
