Dear Future Engineering Student,

Welcome to the College of Engineering at NC State University. We offer one of the most challenging and rewarding college curriculums available today, one that will prepare you for a variety of exciting and meaningful careers.

The College of Engineering at North Carolina State University is among the top engineering schools in the country, both in undergraduate degrees awarded each year and the quality of undergraduate education, research and extension activities. We offer 18 Bachelor of Science degrees in twelve departments. Current enrollment of undergraduate students is around 5,500. Our graduates are highly sought after in a variety of settings, including business, research and development, design, construction, production, sales and management. They can be found in leadership positions throughout our increasingly technological world.

As an engineering student, you will have to work hard at your studies, getting a solid background in engineering principles, and then apply your knowledge in real-world applications.   Your studies are not everything, however. The professional engineer of today is not just an expert in a particular field. Today's engineer is a many-faceted individual whose knowledge is combined with a wide range of skills and experiences. As a student at NC State, you are not just spending time in class and studying; you are preparing yourself for a professional career.

The university offers many activities in student government, sports, music, visual arts, campus media, and theater. The Engineers' Council is an excellent focal point for student activities as well as many student chapters of professional engineering organizations; they all welcome your interest. In short, NC State University offers you a wealth of opportunities; it is up to you to take advantage of them.

Please take the time to familiarize yourself with the information we have provided here about all we have to offer. I wish you the best as you take your first steps toward earning your degree and subsequently taking your place as a leader in society and in the engineering profession.
