Bringing engineering to life across North Carolina through outreach, mentoring and education
The Engineering Place offers a number of different programs, as well as participates in community programs, that generate interest in and excitement about engineering.
If you are interested in becoming involved with any of the programs listed below or just would like some more information, please send an email to engr.outreach@ncsu.edu. We would be happy to try to accommodate your needs and would love the opportunity to share our passion for math and science with you.
The Engineering on the Road program brings engineering to life in K-12 schools all over the state of North Carolina. Through interactive demonstrations and hands-on activities linked to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, we illustrate the true nature of engineering — not just the stereotypical view that many people have — to students, teachers and staff. Programs are customized to meet the needs of the school or organization and for small- and large-group events.
We also participate in other community organizers' programs, such as math and science nights, career fairs and workshops.
The Engineering Place and the College of Engineering are proud to be sponsors of the regional gathering for the nationwide Future City Middle School Engineering Competition. For several years, the competition has been held on the campus of NC State University, and we look forward to hosting the competition in years to come.
RAMP-UP (Recognizing Accelerated Math Potential in Underrepresented People) is a five year, $2.5 million grant program funded by the National Science and GE Foundations. The program is a partnership between the North Carolina State University Colleges of Engineering and Education, Shaw University’s Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the Wake County (NC) Public School System. The overall goal of the program is to increase the number and diversity of students who enroll and succeed in higher level math courses, specifically algebra by 8th/9th grade and calculus by 12th.
Each summer the College of Engineering plans and executes multiple summer programs for rising 3rd to 12th grade students. From day camps to week-long stays, these programs introduce students to engineering through hands-on activities and problem-solving. Students spend the week with other like-minded students and gain exposure to NC State and university life.
The Engineering Place can develop a specific program to meet the needs of many organizations, including K-12 school districts, individual schools, engineering professional organizations and university departments. The following is a sampling of some of the workshops that we have offered:

Another wonderful summer camp season is past! Look for new dates to be posted in December.
