What are the Engineering Summer Programs at NC State?

Mission Statement
Established by the College of Engineering at North Carolina State University, Engineering Summer Programs provide an opportunity for high school students to explore engineering disciplines in which they show an interest, in a challenging and realistic way at a higher education institution. Students will not only acquire knowledge to clarify their individual career goals, but will also enhance their understanding of the application of scientific concepts to real world problems.

Program Overview
Our programs are designed to introduce students to engineering problem-solving techniques through hands-on laboratory experience, lectures and field visits. Each workshop begins with check-in on Sunday afternoon from 1:00-3:00 p.m.; the academic experience covers each day Monday through Thursday with a capstone event on Friday morning to which parents are invited; check-out begins at noon on Friday. All participants will receive information about the College of Engineering as well as NC State University.

Weekly Schedule; Housing; Food; Evening Activities

Each week there will be one late afternoon session following classes that covers topics such as University admission, financial aid and scholarships, the engineering curriculum and engineering as a profession. Also built into each week is a full, structured evening activity schedule designed to enhance the campus experience and allow students to meet new friends from all over the country who have similar academic and career interests. Students are housed at University Towers with a full evening staff of current College of Engineering students to provide supervision and coordinate activities. Breakfast and dinner are in the University Towers dining room.  Students whose workshops are held on Main Campus (Aerospace, Biological, Civil & Construction, Computer Science, Industrial & Systems, Mechanical, and Wolfpack Motorsports) will receive a meal card which allows them to eat lunch anywhere on Main Campus.   Students whose workshops are on Centennial Campus (Autonomous Robotics, Chemical & Biomolecular, and Materials Science) will have lunch on Centennial Campus. All workshop participants have access to the gymnasium and other campus facilities that will offer them a comprehensive university experience.

Program Eligibility
