Civil & Construction Engineering Workshop

Students who attend this program move from the origins of civil engineering and construction management to the technology of the 21st century. Students will begin the week by experimenting with different soils and exploring geotechnical engineering concepts. Next each student will make and break concrete and asphalt samples to evaluate fatigue effects on structures. Students will learn about standard surveying methods and equipment.  A field trip to an area construction site will help illustrate structural concepts. Finally, students will participate each week as a group in building a real, functional wooden timber trestle bridge to learn about teamwork and project management.  Come and get your hard hat!

June 13 - 18; June 20 - 25; June 27 - July 2, 2010
