Purpose

Many engineering and computer science societies' codes of ethics include statements of the professional responsibilities of working engineers and computer scientists. The purpose of this ceremony is to remind and encourage NC State College of Engineering students to be cognizant of these responsibilities as they embark on the next phase of their lives. In addition, we wish to celebrate the conclusion of their time on campus and wish them well in future endeavors as they represent themselves, their families, the college, and NC State itself.

Eligibility

All eligible College of Engineering students are encouraged to participate in the Introduction to the Profession Ceremony sponsored by the college. Students who are within 24 hours of graduation, or have recently graduated, are eligible. At the ceremony, all engineering students will be recognized and receive a ring and certificate.  Students in one of the ABET-EAC degree programs (all programs except computer science) will be inducted into the Order of the Engineer (OOE). Please see www.order-of-the-engineer.org for details on this designation. Computer science students at NC State (currently not eligible for membership in OOE) will be recognized by the college, but not become members of OOE.

(Note: Admission to The Order of the Engineer for CSC students is currently under consideration by the national organization. The NCSU College of Engineering wishes to acknowledge the accomplishments of all engineering and computer science majors at the Introduction to the Profession ceremony.)
