Katherine C. Titus-Becker has been named the new director of the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Program at North Carolina State University, effective July 1, 2006. She replaces Rachel C. Butler who has served as director since January 2004. Titus-Becker comes to NC State from The Ohio State University School of Educational Policy and Leadership.
The WISE Program is a collaborative effort between the Colleges of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Engineering, Natural Resources, Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Textiles and University Housing. The program brings first- and second-year women students and a handful of upper-class mentors together in the WISE Village, located in Lee Hall, with the goal of enhancing academic success and providing students with positive experiences as they live and study with others who share common interests.
As director of WISE, Titus-Becker will be responsible for managing the WISE Village and supervising the WISE mentors. Additional duties will include coordination of academic components such as a women’s speaker series, field experiences and industry visits. Titus-Becker will also help coordinate K-12 outreach efforts for WISE as well as for the College of Engineering’s Women in Engineering program.
Titus-Becker received her master’s degree in higher education administration from Florida State University and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in higher education at Ohio State.
