Dr. Richard Spontak, professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering, has received the 2006 Recognition Award from the International Network for Engineering Education and Research (iNEER) "for distinguished leadership and innovation in active engineering education and multidisciplinary design and research." The award was presented at a recent conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Spontak has been on the faculty at NC State since 1992. He has received the Alcoa Foundation Engineering Research Achievement Award, the Sigma Xi Research Award, an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship, the Outstanding Teaching Award and an Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professorship. His research involves the design and analysis of nanostructured polymers and nanocomposites. Spontak earned his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1988.
