Clarence L. Smith, Assistant Head and Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor of the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at North Carolina State University, was elected to a one year term as chairman of the North Carolina State Board of Refrigeration Examiners at its fall meeting held September 25-27, in Hendersonville, NC.
Smith previously was appointed to the Board by Governor Jim Martin and subsequently reappointed by Governor Jim Hunt, serving from 1987 until 1999, and was the chairman in 1996. His current appointment, made by Governor Easley in 2008, runs through December 31, 2010, at which point a seven-year reappointment is possible.
The State Board of Refrigeration Examiners is responsible for the licensing, oversight and discipline of refrigeration contractors and transport refrigeration contractors. In connection with its oversight responsibilities, the Board has the authority to administer examinations, issue, renew and revoke licenses, and consider complaints filed with respect to licenses, including publishing guidelines governing the suspension and revocation of licenses.
Smith serves as a representative of an engineering school in the UNC system.
