More than 100 high school students from across the country came to North Carolina State University this summer to engineer their futures.
The rising juniors and seniors participated in the 1996 Student Introduction to Engineering (SITE) program held at NC State's College of Engineering.
The program, held in two one-week sessions, from June 9-22, introduced youths to classes in chemical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, materials science and engineering, mechanical and aerospace engineering, and nuclear engineering.
One of the highlights was a design and construction competition in which students built a container that protected an egg dropped from two storie--using only straws, bubble wrap, styrofoam peanuts and tape.
