Jennifer Boyd, senior in biomedical engineering and German studies at North Carolina State University, has been named a Finalist for the Rhodes Scholarship. Boyd, a Caldwell Fellow, University Scholar and intercollegiate distance runner, was recently admitted to the doctoral program in orthopaedic engineering at the University of Oxford. She is the first Rhodes Scholarship District Finalist from NC State since the competition changed its selection structures to eliminate individual state committees. She will represent NC State in Pittsburgh during two days of interviewing on November 16-17.
Established in 1902, the Rhodes Scholarships are the oldest international fellowships, bringing outstanding international students to study at the University of Oxford. Thirty-two American Rhodes Scholars representing diverse educational backgrounds will be chosen from the sixteen American regions, and the award covers all educational costs plus allowance for two years of study with the possibility of renewal for a third year. Boyd is also competing for the Marshall Scholarship, which covers academic costs at a United Kingdom institution for two to three years, plus living and study-related allowances.
